External Conflict- in literature, a struggle between the protagonist and another character against nature or some outside force.

Example: When Edward is fighting James to save Bella’s Life.

Direct Characterization-In a story, it is when the writer, or narrator, tells you the personalities of each person within the story.

In literature and drama, the method of character development in which the author simply tells what the character is like

Example: In Of Mice and Men the narrator says: "Curly was quick and mean."
